What is agility?
Canine agility is an exciting and fast-paced dog sport where handlers guide their dogs through a pre-set obstacle course within a certain time limit. The courses typically feature 14 to 20 obstacles, including tunnels, weave poles, tire jumps, seesaws, and pause tables where the dog must stop and remain still for a set period.
The sport emphasizes the bond between the handler and the dog, as the dog relies solely on the handler’s cues and body language to navigate the course. Dogs run off-leash and are not allowed to be touched by the handler or use food or toys as incentives. This makes agility a test of both the dog’s training and the handler’s ability to communicate effectively.
Agility is open to all dogs, regardless of breed or size, and is a fantastic way to provide physical exercise and mental stimulation. It also helps to strengthen the relationship between the dog and the handler, making it a rewarding activity for both.
